Here are photos of today's pond clean out and start up in Petoskey. It took two men 3.5hours, a little longer than usual but we had to dig a new trench for a new 1/4" poly line for the fill valve. The old was clogged and we were unsuccessful in pulling the new one through the old sleeve. The client has 5 fish that were more than pleased to get back into the newly cleaned pond. City water again so we had to add water conditioner before the fish. It actually helps to add conditioner to any water for the fish. We also added about 1/4 cup of Eco Fix to help start the bacteria in the Bio Filter.

We have the rest of the weekend off than back at it on Monday!

We were foiled today on the start up in Harbor Springs today. Frozen filters and pipes still! So we spent some time evaluating what job sites we can work on first. Not surprisingly many ponds are still too ice filled. We do have a clean out start up in Petoskey Saturday and a full week scheduled for the next two weeks, already, that corresponds with a warm trend this next week. Let us know how we can help your pond look and perform better this season! Contact David at david@muddypaw.net and see our website at www.muddypaw.net

Another clean out start up in Harbor Springs tomorrow then one in Petoskey on Saturday. Thawing is on the way! Was chilly today and windy but not nearly as bad as they predicted with rain and snow mix! Next week we will be ordering in some of the retail products for the season, only a month later than usual. If you have fish and are doing your own clean out and start up using city water remember to use some water conditioner because of the chlorine and other elements in the water before placing your fish back in the pond. Usually you can get the treatments from the pet stores or from your local pond dealer, us!

We did get the first pond clean out, start up for the season in the Petoskey/Harbor Springs area done today! Cold at 40* out there! At least the sun was shining on the downtown Harbor Springs pond we started today. Always fun to work on that pond with all the visitors stopping by, some we have not seen since last season! Three of the four little gold fish survived the winter. After getting the system pumped out, power washed and hosed down we reassembled all the filters, pump and fill valve then added the Eco Fix to get the beneficial bacteria going in the Bio Filter. Its always nice to get the first pond underway of the season... only about 70 or more clean outs to go!

Several ponds are still frozen in their bio filters and pipes so we are still waiting on more warm weather. Let us know if you think yours is thawed out and we will get started on it sooner. I will try to get some pictures the next time. Have a great day!

So I am going to try a small pond clean out and start up in downtown Harbor Springs tomorrow, I'll let everyone know how it goes. Some customers are still reporting the biofalls filters frozen solid still, as expected. It takes almost 10 days of above freezing temps at night before we can really get started on the clean outs. Ice blockages and frozen filters we can't work around.

About Muddypaw!

Spring 2011 is just around the corner, and we can't wait to get started!
Please call for spring pond clean outs and start-ups.  We try to group ponds together to minimize travel times for you and gas for us. For
limiting the green stuff, we are supplying the Algae-Fix and Eco-Fix again this year.  We have had great results the past four years since we changed to this product.

For any of your pond supply needs, from fish food and plants to pond liners we can drop ship it or send our mobile pond store.

Do you love your pond as much as we love ours?  Remember, expansion and enhancement can be created by us. We can add a stream and falls like the picture to the right or a larger water fall with the newest Signature Series bio falls to the edge of the pond like the picture below.  If you can think it we can create it.  Underwater and sculptural landscape lighting really creates nighttime appeal after a long day of work or play.  We can do that too!  We invite you to browse our new web site up very soon for new ideas or general inspiration.  Our ponds, garden art, public art, paintings, pottery, sculptures and more will be displayed.
